The state audit is out for the city of Chula, and it recommends several improvements.
Auditors found the city officials did not obtain required annual audits of its water and sewer systems nor did they prepare required financial reports. Investigators say the city overspent in three funds for a total of about $30,000 last year by not completing budgets or monitoring actual payments. The city also failed to submit annual financial reports as required by state law for the past 8 years. Auditors also recommend the city clerk have more oversight and accounting duties become more segregated.
