Burch Building Razing

The crane is in place now it's a matter of time before a historic building in Maryville's downtown district becomes history itself.

The multi-story apartment complex on the south west corner of the square was gutted by fire last week, displacing about a dozen residents as well as an insurance company and salon. The city says the owner of the building has contracted with a company to mobilize equipment and tear it down. There is concern about the integrity of the existing walls and that corner of the downtown square has been blocked off to traffic until the shell is town down. That's expected to be completed tomorrow. Meanwhile the insurance company, Dave Weigel's shelter insurance is now moved to 918 South main Street next to United Country Twaddle Realty. It's expected to re-open in the next couple of days.
