McCaskill Landowner Letters

A spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers out of Kansas City says letters to landowners offering to buy them out will not be sent for the rest of this year.

Landowners along the Missouri River started complaining after receiving the letters last month, which included a survey and the offer to purchase their land, much of which was being flooded by the Corp's releases on the Missouri River. The complaints drew the attention of Missouri senator Claire McCaskill, who wrote to the Corp's general. She says the offers have the "Sensitivity of a two by four".

The Corps says the intent of the letters was to purchase property for habitat restoration, which they offer to select landowners annually.
