Guard Homecoming

Shenandoah celebrates this afternoon as about 110 citizen-soldiers return from Afghanistan.

The Iowa National Guardsmen and Women are from the Shenandoah, Corning, and Council Bluffs Detachments of Company B, First Battalion 168th Infantry, 34th Infantry division. The welcome home headquarters is at the Shenandoah High School Gym starting at about 3:30, but the celebration is city wide. Residents are asked to bring flags and line the homecoming route starting about 3 this afternoon. Buses carrying the soldiers are expected to come down Highway 148, passing through Corning then reach Highway 34 then 71, going through Clarinda. They will get on Highway 2 until they reach Shenandoah, then onto 59 before traveling on West Sheridan Avenue, South Center Street, Park Avenue, and toward the high school in Shenandoah. Again, the official ceremony is set to start at about 3:30 this afternoon.
