Guard Flood Help

Citizen soldiers from the Maryville National Guard headquarters are among those called up to serve flood response duty in our region.

Dubbed "operation Northern Tide" guardsmen and women are patrolling levees, manning checkpoints, and even helping to evacuate residents in Atchison, Holt, and other counties experiencing flooding from the Missouri River. Sergeant Dylan Bix is with the headquarters battery of the 129th field artillery regiment in Maryville and says he enjoys helping locals where he was stationed near Phelps City.
