Several fire departments in our region are awarded money from the Missouri Department of Conservation.
It comes from the forestry division, and is in the form of matching grants, to be used for equipment and uniforms. In Maryville the polk township receives more than $1,100 from the program. The Tri-C rural fire district gets $611. The south Central Buchanan County Fire Protection District will get more than $1,500 in matching grant money, Dekalb county $2,450, and Gower more than $1,700. The departments are among 180 statewide to receive the grant this year.
