Cut Cap and Balance

The Republican Lead House is trying a different approach this week to deal with the nation's debt negotiations.

The speaker says a vote will be held this week on the "Cut, Cap, and Balance Act of 2011". The bill ties a vote on raising the 14.3 trillion dollar debt ceiling to spending cuts, spending caps, and ratification of a balanced budget amendment. Over in the US House, Missouri senator Roy Blunt is co-sponsoring a nearly identical bill.

It's questionable if the cut, cap, and balance bill can pass on the senate side, although that version gained momentum last week as senate minority leader Mitch McConnell added his name to it as a co-sponsor.
