The city of St. Joseph is putting out the call for volunteers to help sandbagging efforts.
Late last night city officials issued a statement asking for volunteers to start with sandbagging efforts tomorrow through Sunday evening. City officials say 70,000 bags are made, but it's estimated 250,000 are needed to protect various points of the city from the rising Missouri River. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, show a photo ID when singing in, wear appropriate clothing, and meet at 6th and Atchison in St. Joseph starting tomorrow. Those responding must be willing to work at least 2 hours. Volunteers are being asked to call the United Way office in St. Joseph before arriving.
