Several dams are being built and sandbags are being filled in the town of Rockport.

The main focus is at the town's water treatment plant, where a dam about 10 feet high is being created with dirt from the bluff overlooking the town. Kevin Corbin manages the truck wash next to the treatment plant and says about 20 residents are volunteering on the project.

Corbin adds another dirt dam project has started around the new grain elevator in Rock Port, and a gas station in town is considering moving its convenience store up on the bluff to the old gas station that sits empty to try to stay in business if the Missouri River floods the town.
