Rockport Flooding

Flooding along the Missouri River has now impacted the Rock Port area in Atchison county.

The emergency manager there tells us Highway 136 West of Interstate 29 is now underwater and closed to all traffic. Several levees started overtopping yesterday, closing the stretch of 136 between Rock Port and Brownville Nebraska. This has also closed access to the Brownville bridge over the Missouri River. Holt County Emergency Management also reports water approaching Big Lake, and says almost all residents there have now evacuated. Again, Highway 136 west of I-29 between Rock Port and Brownville is now shut down because of rising Missouri River flood waters. Emergency officials in Atchison county say a 5 O'clock yesterday evening, the Missouri River at Brownville was three-quarters of a foot above the 1993 level with water expected to continue rising the next several days.
