Red Cross Standby

St. Joseph's Red Cross chapter says it's in the same position as flood-prone residents: They are prepared, now they are waiting for action.

The Midland Empire Chapter says evacuees in Holt county are staying with family and friends so far but a shelter has been designated for the First Christian Church in Mound City. Red Cross director Kevin Kirby says local residents there are ready at a phone call's notice to open the shelter if needed. He says all members of his team are preparing for action from St. Joseph north on both Missouri and Kansas sides of the river.
