June 22, 2011HOLT COUNTY, MO | By: Wayman
On the heels of the Corps of Engineer's announcement to release even more water into the Missouri River, Holt County Emergency officials are issuing an evacuation warning to two other communities: Fortescue and Bigelow.
Holt County Emergency operations says the little Tarkio Creek levee is, in quote, "Imminent danger" of failure. Officials say with the extra release of water at Gavins Point dam in South Dakota tomorrow, river levels at Rulo Nebraska are expected to rise another foot which should reach Holt county around Friday. Again, an evacuation order has been issued for the communities of Fortescue and Bigelow and the surrounding areas with a Red-Cross shelter for temporary housing needs operating in Mound City at the First Christian Church.
