June 28, 2011BUCHANAN COUNTY, MO | By: Wayman
Missouri River flooding has shut down more highway, one between time between Missouri and Kansas and another between Kansas and Nebraska.
On top of that, this afternoon Buchanan County authorities have shut down Highway 59 or 116 near St. Joseph south to Highway 45. Officials have closed Highway 59 at the Highway 49 Intersection at Winthrop. This also cuts off access to the Mokan Bridge, also known as the Amelia Earhart Bridge, coming into Atchison Kansas. There's no word on when the river levels might allow for that stretch of Highway 59 to be re-opened. And flooding has forced the closure of a highway connecting Kansas and Nebraska. The Kansas division of Emergency Management says State Highway 7 north of Sparks in Doniphan county to the Nebraska border is now closed.
