Hamburg Levee Hopes

Even though the Missouri River Levee at Hamburg is gone, crews are working through the night to make an existing levee higher.

This one was built in 1996 for a ditch west of town and workers have spent the last two days putting another 7 feet of soil on top of it. Hamburg fire chief Dan Sturm says it's the last line of defense for the partially-evacuated town.

Sturm adds the last levee was not built to withstand water from the Missouri River so rising levels through August will be a test.
