Friday's evidence seizure at Maryvilel's Finish Line convenience store shows the crack-down on suspected synthetic drugs continues in our area.
Investigators say the latest raid seized a considerable amount of bags and boxes of possible drug paraphernalia and illegal substances. Missouri lawmakers have outlawed "K-2" and other chemicals that mimic the effects of illegal drugs and for the past couple of months police in Chillicothe, St. Joseph, and now Maryville have taken evidence from area gas stations and convenience stores. Nodaway County Sheriff Darren White says they are not targeting businesses, just possible illegal activity. Investigators say many of the synthetic drugs available are labeled "Herbal" or have names like "Bath Salts". St. Joseph Police say several users have even ended up in the hospital from reactions from the chemicals.
