Seat Belt Enforcement

The St. Joseph Police Department starts this week making an extra effort to crack down on drivers without seatbelts.

The "Click it or ticket" campaign is statewide through Missouri and is designed to encourage seat belt use. The Police Department says that's the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in crashes. Despite the fact it's a state law to wear your seatbelt, right now Missouri has a 76% usage rate, compared to 85 nationally. The St. Joseph crack down starts today and runs through next Sunday, June 5th.
