Several schools in our region are eligible to share in nearly 9 million dollars.
It's federal money targeting persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants Program. The money can be used for items like replacing a principal, re-hiring staff, converting a school to a charter model, or comprehensive curriculum reform, among other strategies. School districts eligible for the grant money this past year and in line for this upcoming round are Chillicothe R-2, Trenton R-9, Brookfield R-3, Princeton, Cameron, St. Joseph, Savannah, East Buchanan, Pattonsburg, South Harrison, South Holt, North Daviess, Milan, and Gallatin. Schools must submit an application to the state by next Monday to be considered for the federal money.
