16 facilities in our region will be shut down by the Missouri Department of Transportation if its plan is approved by state regulators next month.
The goal is to save about a hundred million dollars a year with reduced maintenance and labor costs. Here is the proposed list in our region. In Cameron the regional engineering office, and maintenance traffic facilities would be closed in Barnard, Bosworth, Coffey, Eagleville, Faucett, Green City, Hamilton, Harris, Maysville, Oregon, Plattsburg, Rochester, Stewartsville, Tarkio and the Junction C and V facility in Linn county. MoDOT says most jobs impacted by the closures are expected to either be transferred or eliminated through attrition, although some administrators concede lay-offs could happen in the future. The Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission votes on the proposal on June 8th, with the timeline of facility closures as soon as possible thereafter.
