The Missouri Department of Transportation unveils its new 5 year plan which includes closing the district office in Macon.
The goal is to save about 117 million dollars a year to be put back into road and bridge repairs. Besides the Macon location, MoDOT offices in Joplin and Willow Springs will also close under the proposal. This will make 7 transportation districts in Missouri instead of the current 10. MoDOT director Kevin Keith says even with the closures, MoDOT isn't abandoning those communities. The suggested cuts and closures are open to public comment at forums across Missouri the next several months before the state transportation commission votes on the proposal.
