The director of the Missouri Department of Transportation says personnel and equipment reductions are in the future.
Kevin Keith made the announcement during a senate transportation committee hearing. The plan is to cut staff in MoDOT offices across the state, but keep current maintenance workers. The cuts are being blamed on funding reductions, and could save MoDOT about 50 million dollars in the next 5 years. Jefferson City senator Mike Kehoe serves on the transportation committee and says the general public shouldn't be impacted. The MoDOT director says the savings from the cuts will be put back into roads and bridges as well as help maximize federal matching dollars.
