The Red Cross out of St. Joseph is putting out a warning: Donations of supplies pouring into Joplin are beginning to overwhelm recovery efforts.
That's confirmed by FEMA Officials, who point supplies may be requested by specific local agencies in Joplin, but unsolicited donations being collected across Missouri by church, business, and other groups are taking away valuable resources. Officials say it requires sorting, packaging, transportation, and warehouse space that could be used better for immediate recovery efforts, which are still in full operation throughout Joplin. Officials say the best way for you to help out is through cash donations, they allow the most flexibility in getting the most, needed resources. You can still do that by calling 211 or by giving cash donations to legitimate agencies like the Red Cross or Salvation Army.
