The Grand River Area Family YMCA in Chillicothe is hosting its annual fundraiser for the Y-Pals mentoring program on Saturday.

The "Tropical Escape Luau" features celebrity waiters, an authentic hog roast, the infamous dessert auction, and an exciting evening in true Luau style. According to Sally Peterson, Y-Pals director, Y-Pals is a mentoring program that gives children ages 6 to 14 in need of a positive adult role model, a chance to have regularly scheduled activities with that mentor in order to develop a 1 on 1 connection with each other, and develop a life-long friendship. Peterson adds that the evening will be an authentic, tropical style evening. Guests will also be entertained throughout the evening with island music from local legend Dan Venner, a local elementary music teacher. Peterson also adds that numerous local volunteers have been preparing their costumes for appearances including Jimmy Buffet, Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie's Angels, and the Boys From Hawaii 5-0. The event will take place at the Chillicothe Elks Lodge with social time beginning at 6 on Saturday evening, and the hog roast dinner beginning at 6:30.
