Recycling Cut

This is the last week for city recycling in Savannah.

City leaders say financial challenges have forced Savannah to cut recycling pick-up effective Monday. City manager Jill Cornett says staff reductions have already begun as well. She says staff levels have fallen about 15% through layoffs, reduction in hours, and attrition. Departments effected include administration, the Savannah Police Department, and public works. They are also reducing the hours Savannah City Hall is operating closing it on Wednesdays but open the other week days. On the recycling issue, the city adds it will be an option when they bid out trash pickup later this year. Savannah residents can still bring recyclable goods to the county's facility, that's at 11th and Davis Streets.
