The St. Joseph Police Department and the US Drug Enforcement Administration have partnered together as part of the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
On Saturday the Police Department will be set up at the East Hills Mall parking lot next to Sears, and will be collecting old prescription medications and disposing of them in a safe manner. Sergeant Larry Stobbs, of the St. Joseph Police Department, says old prescription drugs have posed a problem in recent years. Sergeant Stobbs also adds that it is not a good idea to flush old medications down the drain, because they will eventually end up in our water supply. The Police Department will not be checking identification and no paper work is needed in order to participate. No syringes or needles will be accepted. The prescription Drug Take Back will be held Saturday, from 10 in the morning until 2.
