The Clarinda Academy is using sports to teach young people strength in themselves literally.
The agency helps at-risk kids and juvenile delinquents and now it's doing that through powerlifting. Select students are competing in powerlifting tournaments. Jim Davis is the head coach of the powerlifting team. He says the sport is a boost to the kid's confidence levels, especially when they get recognition. The Clarinda Academy students compete in all seasons against local Iowa High Schools and sometimes on the national level.
