Imitation Drugs

Fake drugs are causing real health problems in the St. Joseph area.

The Buchanan county drug strike force and St. Joseph Police have documented about two dozen local residents the last few weeks requiring emergency medical care as a result of use of these imitation drugs. Symptoms include seizure-like episodes and juvenile users being found in near comatose states. Some of the items are labeled as incense or bath products, but sold at inflated costs and marked with labeling or sold under street names associating them with their use as drugs. Lieutenant Steve Gumm, with the Buchanan County Drug Strike Force, provides a couple examples of these imitation drugs to watch out for. A recent raid by the St. Joseph Police Department confiscated the so-called imitation drugs and officials say more suspects are being sought.
