Fake Drugs Bust

The St. Joseph Police Department does a drug sweep with several arrests, only this time they are looking for imitation drugs.

Officers are targeting items labeled bath salts or incense, but are sold at inflated costs and marketed or sold with street names associating them with drugs. The St. Joseph Police tell us they have seen nearly 2 dozen people ingest the chemicals and become sick and hospitalized. Juveniles have been reported in a near coma state while other users of the imitation drugs are having seizure like episodes. Police have served warrants at several outlets in St. Joseph, including Cloud 9 on the South Belt Highway, Smokerz Outlet on Frederick Avenue, and Prince Food Mart of Woody's on Frederick Avenue. Two people, including a clerk and store owner, have been arrested on possession of imitation controlled drugs with intent to deliver. Police have also seized evidence at the locations, and say additional suspects are being sought. They say the investigations and prosecutions will continue in St. Joseph.
