State transportation officials say the Brownville Bridge Project has reached a milestone and is on track to be open later this Summer.
Crews have been working on the structure since 2009 replacing the road and bridge decking spanning between Atchison county Missouri and Nemaha county Nebraska. Road crews are about ready to start removing the concrete forms from the bridge. Weather permitting they will start next week putting up the guardrails. At that point traffic will be switched to the south side of the bridge. More steel repairs are scheduled for early next month with all steel repairs set to be finished in June or July. The Brownville Bridge will also be painted as the final step, before re-opening by the Fall. The good news: Even though traffic remains down to one lane, officials have not scheduled any more bridge closures because of the construction.
