Missouri highway patrolmen will be out in force at Missouri's college campuses this week, but it's for a good cause.
It's a competition among Missouri's 20 colleges and universities called "Battle of the Belts" and law enforcers are randomly surveying parking lots to check on students wearing seatbelts. The school with the highest percentage of students wearing seatbelts will win. In 2009 a National College Health Assessment Survey showed 88% of students the university in Maryville, for example, said they wore seatbelts "Most of the time". Northwest officials are hoping to raise that number even higher by participating in the "Battle of the Belts" and raise awareness.
