548th Deployment

Citizen soldiers from across Missouri have now left on their mission to Afghanistan.

About 170 service men and women from the Missouri Army National Guard's 548th transportation company and their families heard from governor Jay Nixon yesterday afternoon at a deployment ceremony in Trenton. They will be in Texas for final training before going overseas. Staff sergeant Doug Christmas of Savannah is one of the soldiers serving, his Afghanistan mission is his first overseas. Before yesterday's deployment ceremony he said they want to accomplish their mission, but will be thinking of home. Christmas advises everyone at home not to worry when we hear news of Afghanistan battles. he says if one of our hometown heroes is involved, the the military will contact families directly and there's no need to worry.
