As Americans watch at the continuing crisis in Japan, the St. Joseph chapter of the American Red Cross is asking our region to help out.
Executive director of the midland empire chapter Kevin Kirby says the American Red Cross is coordinating efforts with the Japanese Red Cross. Kirby says a Red Cross warehouse in Malaysia is on standby to ship out pre-positioned relief supplies. More than 60 teams with the Japanese Red Cross have already been activated in Japan. Kirby says the best way to help out locally is simply to give money: It requires no storage, no shipping costs, and can be used for specific needs of Japan. You can learn more by contacting the St. Joseph Red Cross which is located on North 12th Street in St. Joseph.
