As the crisis continue to unfold at Japan's nuclear power plants local officials are keeping a close eye.
The Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville Nebraska is part of the Nebraska Public Power District. The station produces 800 Mega-Watts of electric per hour for much of our Nebraska listening area. Jeanna Schieffer communications manager with NPPD says the entire nuclear industry is looking to Japan for guidance in an unprecedented disaster. Schieffer also says the plant regularly performs drills on their emergency action plan. The action plan provides for natural disaster situations including earthquakes and tornadoes.
