Missouri Western in St. Joseph has raised its tuition.
The board of governors approves a tuition and general fees increase of $17.61 per credit hour for in-state undergraduates. This means the average Missouri Western student will pay about $423 a year more starting this Fall. The school points to an anticipated state appropriations cut which will mean nearly 3 million dollars less for the school in a period of two years. Missouri Western's president says the tuition hike isn't ideal, but the only viable option the institution has after freezing salaries, leaving vacant positions unfilled, and cutting operating budgets by 20%. Officials say even with the higher tuition and fees, the cost of attending the St. Joseph school remains nearly $600 a year below the state-wide average.
