March 16, 2011MARYVILLE, MO | By: Wayman
Thousands of miles from the epicenter, Japanese living in Maryville are trying to keep on top of the deepening crisis in their island country.
One of those is Momko Otsuka who is a student at the university in Maryville. Her family is living in a suburb of Tokyo, and they are using online e-mails and postings to keep her informed of the conditions. Momoko says all Japanese are concerned about the radiation from over-heated nuclear plants, but says life for her parents in the Tokyo area is relatively normal, except all trains are still shut down and there are scheduled rolling blackouts each day. She says the Japanese are grateful for the international assistance that is pouring into the country.
