Missouri Gas Energy has filed an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission asking permission to increase a surcharge on the bills of its natural gas customers.

MGE is seeking the adjustment to pay for infrastructure replacement costs made by the natural gas company from June 2010 through January of this year. The current surcharge for residential customers is $0.21 a month, and MGE wants to increase that rate to $0.50 a month. Missouri Gas Energy provides natural gas service to approximately 500,000 customers in Missouri. Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than March 15th with the secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission.
