A 5th grader at Horace Mann in Maryville is putting her town on the map by becoming a semi-finalist in the state geographic bee.
Sabrina Olson earned one of the top 100 scores among Missouri's 4th and 5th graders. Olson's score on the qualifying test was confirmed by the National Geographic Society. This means she's moving on to the 2011 Missouri Geographic Bee, to be held April 1st on the University of Missouri Columbia Campus. The state winner will then go on to compete in Washington in late May, with a chance of a $25,000 college scholarship and lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society.
