A new program is being unveiled today that gives regional school districts a chance for more grant money.
The St. Joseph Center, the outreach campus of Northwest Missouri State University is offering grants to school districts it serves ranging from $50 to $500. About 150 northwest Missouri school districts are eligible. Dr. Melody Messner is coordinating the grant applications and says she modeled it after a similar program she saw in the Kansas City area. She says in that case, one teacher used grant money creatively to purchase about 45 bongo drums for students. Messner says projects being funded must be outside of other grant money the district has received and must also align with the local district's goals. Applications are available now through the end of April through Northwest Missouri State's St. Joseph Center.
