Chillicothe School Cuts

A dire financial picture for the Chillicothe R-2 Schools results in the elimination of 14 positions in the district.

The board has approved the cuts, which could save a little more than a million dollars a year in salaries and benefits. Among the cuts are a teaching and, administrative assistant, and summer secretary at the high school. Also at the high school teacher positions being eliminated are communications arts, science, PE, social studies, and a half time social studies and industrial arts instructor. Other positions at the elementary school include 2 teachers and several half-time positions at the Chillicothe Middle School. The cuts were approved by the board and included input from teachers and staff across the Chillicothe district. Assistant superintendent Jim Rush was named "Acting" superintendent for the outgoing Dr. Linda Gray Smith, who is retiring.
