Caldwell county finances are improving, but more improvements on internal operations could be used.
That's the conclusion of a state audit of Caldwell county. Investigators looked at finances for 2008 through 2009 and found revenues decreased by more than 2 million dollars. They also found Caldwell county spent about 473,000 more than it brought in in 2009. On the Operations side, investigators found the county treasurer and clerk were not reconciling monthly statements. They also say the county's budget didn't compare to amounts listed on the general ledger creating several funds that had exceeded their budgeted amounts. Auditors also round mileage and meal reimbursements for county employees were lacking. The Caldwell county commission and the clerk says they are working to correct all the findings.
