MARYVILLE, MO (2011-03-14)
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering a general sign up for the conservation reserve program starting today through APril 15th.
THe purpose of the CRP is to take environmentally sensitive land out of crop production and seed it with grass to prevent soil erosion and improve wildlife. In exchange, farms accepted into the program will receive rent payments from the farm service agency. Time Dreier, the executive director for the Nodaway County USDA Farm Service Agency, says deciding what land will be included in the CRP is anything but simple. The deadline for sign up is April 15th. Contracts awarded during the sign up will take effect October 1st.
