The Missouri Poison Center has released new information about an increasingly popular drug among adolescent and teen males.
The abuse of bath salts was first noted last year and provides a powerful high for its users. The drug is frequently sold in small, colorful packets in gas stations and tobacco shops. Dr. Anthony Scalzo says the Missouri Poison Center received more than 50 drug related calls within the first six weeks of this year. That's more than all calls received last year. Dr. Scalzo also says the hallucinogenic substances added to bath salts results in addiction, physical and psychological harm and death. However, the affects of the drug are not entirely understood. Scalzo says teens are running through a lot of cash as small bath salt packets sell for as much as 25 to 50 dollars.
