The Green Hills Community Action Agency in Trenton is pro-actively trying to dispell misconceptions about women's health services it provides.
This week congress is considering cutting funding for some services Green Hills offers but says that funding is not and can not be used for abortions. The women's health services seeks alternatives to abortions, and also seeks to prevent unwanted pregnancy altogether by providing low-cost access to birth control. This program also helps to detect breast and cervical cancer, treat gynecological problems and infections as well. Unplanned teenage pregnancy between the ages of 15 to 19 year olds within the Green Hills service area has seen a 20% decline from 1990 to 2009. The abortion rate within these areas has also dropped by over 1/3.
