North Central's Barton campus is 138 acres that the college is developing with conservation structures, a plant science building, alternative fuels classroom, and even a 100 foot wind turbine for students to train on. The nearly million dollar package announced yesterday comes from a rural development program through the USDA. Agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack says the federal money will have lasting benefits to the Trenton area. Vilsack says the goal of the federal money is to build up rural infrastructure projects like the Barton campus, hospitals, and energy centers to help with the long-term viability of rural communities.
