Kansas City Power and Light is planning the project and now the Missouri Public Service commision has cleared the way to construct a new electrical production facility on a tract of land next to St. Joseph's landfill. The plan is to drill 49 wells into the 90 acre municipal landfill to capture the methane gas inside, then convert it to electricity for the KCP & L power grid. The gasses are expected to produce enough electricity to run a thousand homes for a year.
