The school board this week gave a plan to cut teaching positions back to the middle school and high school staff for more input. The Chillicothe R-2 Board is considering a proposal to cut 4 teachers at the middle school and 5 at the high school. This is after state funding cuts last year of more than $216,000 to the R-2 budget. More than 40% of that budget is funded by the state. Chillicothe superintendent Dr. Linda Gray-Smith says public input on the finances is always appreciated, and that's what the board is weighing now. The Chillicothe School Board meets again on March 1st to consider the staff's ideas for position cuts.
