The nearly #317,000 grant comes from a branch of the federal environmental protection agency and will be used to clean up asbestos and other contaminants as the former prison site is developed for housing. Federal officials have also approved an additional $100,000 if its needed to add to other funding to complete the project. The entire Brownfield clean up is expected to cost around 8 million dollars. A developer has pledged to build apartments to help with affordable housing in Chillicothe.
