CMC extracts oil and a black coloring agent from shredded tires and recycles the by-products for other uses in rubber and manufacturing. Plant officials think the oil spill leaked from a storage tank over the weekend. The state DNR was contacted on Monday. Besides the location at the CMC plant on Maryville's east side. KXCV has confirmed an unknown amount of the oil has also reached the 102 River about an 1/8 of a mile east of the factory. CMC plant manager Brian Huey says clean-up could continue through tomorrow.
