Feb. 1, 2011MARYVILLE, MO | By: Wayman
Haz-Mat crews worked all of yesterday to clean it up after a transfer hose malfunctioned at the CMC factory on the east side of town. That's the company that extracts oil and other products from shredded tires. It's also the location of two fires that broke out in December and January. Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Renee Bungart confirms the oil spill has reached the nearby 102 River. The 102 is the former water supply for the city of Maryville but is no longer used for that purpose. CMC plant manager Brian Huey says the company is working both short and long term to fix the spill and the recent fire problems. Huey says operations and shifts at the CMC plant continue as normal.
