4 Day School

The Albany R-3 Board voted last night to make the change in the upcoming school year starting in August. The district enrolls about 450 students. Albany superintendent Bryan Prewitt says each school day will also lengthen about 45 minutes. The 4 day week is also expected to save the district about $78,000 a year. Prewitt adds it makes sense financially, but almost doubling the amount of professional development for teachers every other Monday sealed the deal. Prewitt adds there was no opposition to the plan in 4 public hearings since it was introduced to the board in November. Lathrop schools became the first district in Missouri to move to a 4-day school week. The Mound City Board is expected to consider a similar measure this Spring.
