Chillicothe Chase

Police say the man stole a purse in Hy-Vee Wednesday afternoon, then fled on foot. They say he went about 2 and a half blocks through private yards between Cherry and Walnut Street in Chillicothe. Police captain Tony Kirkendoll says as officers were driving trying to track him through the neighborhood, he suddenly appeared from an alley. His abrupt appearance in front of the patrol car, however, caused the patrol car behind it to rear-end the other cruiser. One of the patrol cars received enough damage it's now in a shop being fixed. Arrested is 38 year old Gary Lee Riddle. The purse was returned to the victim. This is the second major crime involving the Chillicothe Hy-Vee in recent months when a shoplifter was caught and used a box-cutter to cut a manager's arm in his attempt to get away.
